Trek Across Maine Camping

Last month Alex and I did the Trek Across Maine - a 180 mile, 3 day bike ride with about 2500 other riders that benefits the American Lung Association. We rode a Trek tandem and camped out along the way. This sketch shows our campsite at the University of Maine Farmington. We camped on the soccer fields. The nice thing about this spot is that it's close to the river where the swimming is fantastic after a long day in the saddle. Alex helped out with this sketch and colored in the tents in the background. It was a fun 3 days and he did awesomely.

We're headed to Japan tomorrow with sketchbooks in hand for 2 full weeks to explore mountains, cities, hotsprings and temples.

Ken I love bicycling too. But I love this journal entry just as much. This is a very beautiful illustration. It grabs the viewers attention right away. Plus I think that it is very engaging. I wanted to enlarge it and study what you see, get the artists perspective. Then an amazing thing happened speaking solely as an artist. I had an artistic emotional experience, which is not easy for an artist/illustrator to acheive. If you can get your audience to have an emotional experience viewing your art, that is the highest aspiration that an illustrator/artist can hope to accomplish and you did it. Congratulation you're an accomplished artist. Great job.

Wow! To love a journal entry as much as bicycling. Must be the coolest comment I've received! Sometimes I wonder if the feelings we have as we are drawing are somehow imparted in the finished drawing/sketch. Thinking back to that day and drawing it with my son was especially sweet for me considering all that we had been through to get to that point in both of our lives. I'm happy you connected with that drawing on an emotional level. Thanks for letting me know!
